Ayurveda has been using the healing power of oils for centuries to enhance wellness and keep harmony within our physical bodies. Sesame oil and coconut oil can serve as healing carrier oils to help pull toxins and impurities from our system. Sesame oil has been studied for its high antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, which are great for promoting healing and reducing cell damage. Coconut oil is great for our skin, teeth, bones, and immune system. The medium-chain fatty acids found in coconut oil also possess antimicrobial properties that can help treat acne and protect the skin from harmful bacteria. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/coconut-oil-and-skin
Ayurveda Oil Practices Nasal Oil (Nasya Oil) and Sesame Oil Pulling (Gundusha) Mixture
While both sesame and coconut oils could be used for oil pulling and nasal lubrication; I prefer to use Sesame oil for oil pulling and as a nasal oil. In Ayurveda health practices Sesame oil benefits all three of the dosha; Pitta, Vata, Kapha.
I love and prefer using coconut oil as a facial oil cleanser and make-up remover. It leaves my skin feeling wonderful and balanced, not stripped. It also does not irritate my eyes and removes stubborn eye makeup gently.
The action of oil pulling is simple. it is recommended to do this practice in the morning on an empty stomah, prior to brushing your teeth. Take about a tablespoon of sesame oil in your mouth, and swish it around. I add a few organic mint leaf flakes in the sesame oil mixture for a minty taste; and store in a glass container.
Throughly swish the oil around pushing and pulling the oil between the teeth. Make sure NOT to swallow any of the oil. The benefit of oil pulling is it detoxes the body by pulling toxins and harmful bacteria from the soft tissue of our system. The time of process varies per your preference, my ideal time for this process is 3-5 minutes and spit out the oil in a trash container. However some people prefer to swish upwards of 20 minutes as apart of their self care routine. Once you have reached your deesired time, proceed too brush your teeth as normal. An additonal healthy oral hygiene practice is to brush your teeth with a flouride free tooth paste and charcol for natural whitening.

Nasya is the Ayurvedic practice of lubricating the nasal passageway with healing oils. The benefit of using a nasal oil is it moisturizers the nasal passageway promoting a healithy nasal cavity. This helps reduce sinus issues, and helps enhance prana and universal energy flow. It is a theraputic enhancement to use the nasal oil during our night routine to unwind from the day, and calm the mind. Tilt your head slightly and place 3 drops of the oil in each nostril. Gently massage the otside of the nostril to help lubricate the passage, mindfully breathe, and relax.
The nasal oil could be a simple seasame oil mixture with natural essential oils such as eucalptus. Store the mixture in a small amber glass bottle with a dropper, for easier use. Or you have the option to purchase a nasal oil at your local natural wellness store, and online. I prefer to use Super Nasya Herbal Oil
